The Elephant Man
by Bernard Pomerance
“The performances were magnificent!” Mooney on Theatre
Sanctuary and The Bench Theatre Initiative are proud to present The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance, the story of grossly deformed John Merrick and his life in turn of the century England. The play deals with questions of appearance versus reality, the limits of charity, and the ways we impose ourselves into the lives of others. The Sanctuary/Bench presentation of The Elephant Man will draw these themes into particular relief thanks to a combined cast of professional and street-involved actors. This is a performance that promises to be disrupting, heartbreaking and illuminating.
